How I Plan to Save For Next Christmas.

This Christmas was the first Christmas in a long time that I didn’t make a single charge to a credit card for gifts or our Holiday party. Everything was paid for with cash and damn

, it felt good waking up the day after Christmas knowing I wouldn’t be paying for it months down the road.

Yesterday I saw a photo being circulated on Facebook titled “52 week savings plan.”

I knew the minute I saw it that I was going to do this and title it “Christmas 2013 Fund.”

And I knew I had to share it here with you.

So simple, right?

You’re welcome.

This is a great idea. I showed it to my mom and we are both going to try it. Thanks for sharing!

I saw this on Facebook, too, and love it. I know we’ve probably been told this and probably even seen it a dozen times, but they say you won’t learn until you are ready. I’m ready. I need this!

There was a particular project I wanted desperately to do with my family this Christmas and we couldn’t afford it. It cost $1,000. We’re doing it next year, by damn.

I love this idea – but I struggle with the amounts you are supposed to deposit the last 4 weeks just before the holidays. The deposit numbers keep going up when my money is getting tighter (electric bills go up, kids need new winter clothes, firewood, etc.). I wish there was some way to modify this with a deposit system that was more of a wave in shape – small deposits in the beginning working to the largest ones in the summer, then decreasing back in amount heading into the holiday. Same amount deposited overall, but not as heavy at the end of the plan.

I saw it on Pinterest & immediately thought I’d do it. We regularly save money every month, for emergencies & spur-of-the-moment trips, but I wanted to do more, so I added this 🙂

I’ve been using this all year and I’m so proud that I’ve kept up with it. For those that want it modified, my husband actually suggested doing it in reverse. Start with the larger amounts first and then work down to smaller ones, as it gets harder to save the larger amounts and the holidays approach.

    Thank you for posting it.
