I Just Wrote.

Write something. Write anything. Just write.

This is what I tell myself every day. Then, I sit down to write and I’m frozen with fear. Overcome with insecurity. Paralyzed with self-doubt.

I’m not smart enough. I’m not funny enough. I’m not clever enough.

I’m irrelevant.

But you love to write. I tell myself. So

, just do it. Just write.

There are so many things I want to write about, so many things I should write about.

Like the heart warming visit I had with my son at Camp Pendleton this weekend. Or the conversation I was forced to have with my daughter about wearing deodorant at eight years old. Or how I have committed to another six weeks of fitness boot camp.

I should write about everything. I should write about nothing. I should write like I used to. I should write like I love to. I should write like I want to.

Tonight I’m doing it. I’m writing. But more importantly, I’m going to hit publish and then do it again tomorrow.

Even if no one is reading. Even if everyone is reading.

Write. Just write, dammit.

I love hearing stories about your kids! Please tell us about your visit with your son (and the deodorant story is probably a killer).

Yes, please! 🙂 I had to start doing that, too. It gets easier as you do it more, but it’s hard to get going again once you’ve stopped. Have always loved your writing. And have followed your blog for years! Years before I had the courage to start writing my own blog. Love you! Can’t wait to read.

Keep writing! I love reading what you write. You make me laugh and cry and give me inspiration. Just keep writing!

I’m with you, just write. I enjoy what you write. It doesn’t have to be some heartwarming story or some hilarious incident that happened in your life. I just enjoy reading it.

Don’t stop writing. I have always enjoyed your posts. I’ve been reading for at least eight years (if not more). I can’t remember when I started!

I love reading about nothing and I love reading about everything. You truly have a gift and we appreciate you sharing.

I have been following you for YEARS. At my peak I followed 75 blogs in Google Reader. I deleted them all out, and just followed the ones that were memorable enough that I would go to them intentionally. Several years later, I now follow 4 blogs. Yours is one of them. (The others are Dooce, Balancing Everything, and Loralee’s Looney Tunes.)

I read your blog because you’re a real person, and not a Photoshopped persona, who writes about things I can relate to. I’ve missed your updates!

I’m not sure if I commented before, but reading about Andrew’s journey of going through boot camp and becoming a Marine, and your journey through it, has really helped me be supportive and present for one of my best friends, and her younger brother who is in boot camp now. Thanks so much for sharing your stories.

Please continue to write. I love hearing about your life, about your ups & your downs. It makes me feel as though I am not alone!
    Thanks!

    Hey,
Just a note to say I am a Harley Street PA and in between the humongous and busiest clinics I make time to have a cup of tea and read your (bookmarked) blog. So, you have to keep updating basically otherwise I will have to do work instead.

I check in often to see if you have posted. I love your blog, i’ve said it before I will say it a million times. You are inspirational and have a wicked sense of humor. As far as your daughter and deodorant, I am speaking from experience, you may want to make sure she is washing her pits good. Seriously- I had to have that chat about deodorant with my daughter as well and come to find out the pit washing wasn’t going well as I had been told. Just a tip.

I hear ya sista… I too am trying to make a comeback to my blog.. I guess it happens to everyone..
That butt gripping fear of not knowing what to write about.. or even worse… KNOWING what to write and not having the courage to do it..
It’s kinda been a problem since the start…
( Thus the name of my blog) : )
It all started as a way to keep in touch with loved ones far from home…. Then I couldn’t let it go..Ugh.
Anyway….Been a fan of your blog for ages….. If You keep trying.. so will I..
    All the best !!

Print these comments out and keep them near your computer. Whenever you feel paralyzed by fear and don’t know what to write, remember that there are many of us who like reading anything you write! I’ve always loved your stories and photos…you are an inspiration to me in so many ways. Please keep writing 🙂

I keep checking to see if you’ve written something new! Love your writing. I too used to have a long list of blogs I read, now just a cherished few on the list. As far as the block, well, from my own experience, and other’s that I’ve heard. Just write. Everyday. Maybe just keep a private journal going. When you are ready to share, you’ve got an appreciative audience right here!

Hi. You are an amazing writer, an amazing photographer, and an amazing mother. I haven’t read your blog in a while, but I came back today and I cried. I relate to you and your life so much. I love your pictures. The wedding pictures made me tear up. They were so beautiful. I also miss my son who is in bootcamp right now, and I have to talk to my 12 year old daughter about shaving her legs! I struggle with my weight and my self confidence. You make me realize I am not alone in these things, and it’s comforting. Keep doing what you’re doing, and know that there are strangers out there that are affected in a positive way by you. 🙂
