My Grandma, June 14, 1922- November 14, 2011

My grandmother passed away early Monday morning. I have so much to say about the experience of losing her, but I’m having a hard time putting those thoughts into the written word at the moment. So for now, I listen to her sweet voice, just days before she died, and my heart breaks and rejoices at the same time. She is gone from this earth, but she is exactly where she wanted to be.
Rest in peace, dear Grandma.

(The voice recording was taken just a couple of weeks before she passed away– she knew she was dying of cancer.)

I’m so sorry for you loss. My grandma just passed as well on the 13th. We’ve been looking through old photos and they are so similar to the b&w’s from your slide show.
Thank you for sharing. Praying for your family…

    What a beautiful tribute.
You look a lot like her, and your sons favor your granddaddy. I love looking at old pictures of people I’ve always known as older-it is interesting to remember that they weren’t always senior.
My sympathies to you and your family. Big internet hug.

Thank you for sharing that. I think it’s a gift to your family that you’re able to talk about death with respect and reverence but also as an acknowledgement of fact. So many people talk around it and don’t say what they’re really feeling. I’m so sorry you’re hurting, but it’s obvious that there was a tremendous shared love.

This reminds me so much of the conversations I had with my dear grandma this spring before she died. She and my grandpa were in the same hospital room and we knew neither one would make it long. Grandpa died six weeks before Grandma. He told me he was ready to go, just worried about Grandma and she said we’re going hand in hand. There was no worry, just a readiness to be with the Lord. I hope that I can feel such peace and comfort like they had and like your sweet Grandma had. May God bless your whole family and give you peace and comfort that only comes from Him.
