The One Where I Interview My Boys About Texting.

This is sponsored content from BlogHer and LG Text Ed

Earlier this week I interviewed my boys using questions that readers left in my previous LG post (thank you, readers. You are wonderful.) My boys were excited to take part in this interview. I did not have to force them, in fact, they kept asking me “when are we doing our interviews, Mom?” I was relieved at their answers and yes, I believe that they were answering honestly. I can’t say I particularly enjoyed the part where I got called out by my son, but yay, honesty!
I feel like I need to mention that I did not watch the videos–the sound of my speaking voice makes me cringe (Also? There is a reason I do not do interviews for a living.)– but I do hope that YOU watch and that you enjoy the conversation I had with my boys.
Because this topic is so important for our kids and their futures, BlogHer really wants to get the conversation about texting, sexting and safety going – both with our kids and among parents. It will match LG’s donation of .50 to dosomething.org for every comment on this post.

I watched Andrew’s video and just wanted to say how proud you should be of him. He is a credit to you and your husband. I completely understand why your younger son’s interview is private but if he is anything like his older brother then you have both done a fine job.

That’s great. I had the same kind of conversation with my almost 12 yr old just yesterday after I saw that he’d been texting the same number much more than I’d expected. He had some of the same answers, most importantly, I was happy to hear he said he’d speak up if he ever encountered it.

wow. this is potentially an uncomfortable subject to speak about, but both you and your boys handled it beautifully. what smart, well spoken gentlemen you’ve raised! you must be so proud of them!

Well done you! Both for the interviews and the way you have raised your boys. Very mature and thoughtful answers from both of them.

Y, i’m so impressed with the maturity of your boys. it shows what a great mom you are and that they feel they can talk to you about anything. they were so comfortable answering the questions with you. That’s great! Don’t ever again think that you’re not a good enough mom (per yesterday’s post). it’s 100% obvious that you are a terrific mom!! Kudos on raising two inteligent, aware boys. your girl’s pretty awesome too!

I am in grandmotherly love with both of your sons, they are both wonderful. I especially love the way Andrew called you out for using your phone while driving, in NJ you’d get a big expensive ticket. Regardless of how careful you may think you’re being, you are distracted and will be held totally at fault in any accident. I really don’t want anything bad to happen to you.

You must be so proud of them! So well-spoken and your oldest preaches the golden rule, which warms my heart. We need more individuals, especially males, in the world like these two! You’re a rockstar mama!

My son-at thirteen-is not texting yet (possibly because I have yet to buy him a cell phone), but my seven year old daughter is texting one of her friends back in AL as I type this!
