Summer Killed the Blog

I wish I had a crazy good story to explain my lack of posting. The truth is pretty boring.
I’ve been busy.
this month has been BRUTAL and it’s not done screwing with me yet.
I am counting down the days until it is over. (8)
It’s not been all bad. There have been some great times– Like, when my daughter decided she wants to “pee like a boy for the rest of her life!” SEE? FUN TIMES IN JULY!
The fun isn’t over. Tomorrow, my little brother is getting married and I’m a) going to be the photographer b) learning a song to sing for their first dance. So much potential for disaster! The following week, my other brother is moving to Texas and taking my son with him for a week and then flying him home. Alone. I have never one of my kids fly alone and I am not happy with my decision to let him do so. However, He wanted to do this more than anything and my brother assured me that he’ll be safe (because the airlines will take good care of him?) He’ll be flying home the day before I leave for NYC, so that will be great for my Pre-Flying Stress!
And because things weren’t stressful enough, I waited until 2 days before my brother’s wedding to get my hair done. I love my stylist. She is amazing and her work is flawless. Except, something happened yesterday and she wasn’t.

I hate the cut. I tried to like it. My sister was all “it looks great!” and I was all “you really like it?” And she was all “I do. Your bangs are short, but I like it.” I tried to believe her. I wanted to believe her. But, the day after? I hate it.
Too many layers. Bangs are too short.

(Seriously. I don’t understand it. But I think I just have to get used to it. It’s not a bad cut, it’s just not what I was going for, I think?)
But the color is awesome, so, focusing on that! (So as not to cry or take scissors to my head. Which, we all know would BE VERY BAD. Like, SSUPER DUPER THE WORST, BAD.)
To sum things up.
Busy. Kids. Peeing. Wedding. Singing. Crying. Stressing. Bad haircut. No time to blog.
I plan on blogging regularly again once the kids are back in school (COME SOON, AUGUST 9TH.)
I hope you’re well. We’ll be in touch soon, Wonderful People Who (Still) Read My Blog.

Holy crap you look so skinny! Who’s looking at your bangs when your boobs look so awesome in that shirt? I know there is probably other things to comment on, but that’s all I’ve got.

  2. Jenn

I disagree about the haircut. You may hate it but I’m telling you as a separate person seeing it for the first time, I think it’s totally cute. The bangs don’t look short to me (I mean, if they cause you problems like you have to super straighten them or else they curl and are too short, that’s an issue… but as they are in the pic they look great) and I like the way the layers look too.
Really, it looks nice. I promise. But I’ve certainly had haircuts I hated that others liked so I know my opinion only goes so far. 😉

  3. Nancy P

huh? You look as pretty as ever. Hell you could go bald and still look great. I probably should hate you but… whatever

  4. Julia

your hair looks BEAUTIFUL! you look FABULOUSO! really, why would I lie to you? your son will feel so cool flying alone, that is worth it. all will be well…………..

  5. Dania

Which son is leaving? My kids fly all the time by themselves they’re fine. I get a gate pass and meet them them as soon as they get off the plane…vice versa..person dropping them off can get a gate pass and make sure they’re on the plane. My kids never have “connections” so I don’t worry about it.

  6. Y

Thanks you guys. I don’t think it looks ugly, it’s just not what I wanted. I had just spent a year letting layers grow out. Ugh.
Dania- sadly, my son does have a connecting flight. IN VEGAS. that is why I’m so freaked out.

  7. DiaryofWhy

Well, I don’t know what you’re talking about. That is clearly the World’s Most Perfect Haircut, and if you give it a few days I think you’ll see it too. (I always have post-haircut freakout and end up coming around in time.) In the meantime, don’t do anything drastic! 🙂

  8. Jessalee

I actually think your hair looks awesome, and the bangs do NOT look short. Of course, they may FEEL short. But as a person who has never met you before? Don’t look too short. And the layers look awesome.

  9. Missy

I hate when a new hair style doesn’t look like you picture it – but what you have looks really fabulous. The color is awesome. I would bet after a week or so you’ll be used to it.
The more important thing I want to say is OMG YOU LOOK GREAT!!! You look so thin, Y. Honestly, I am so impressed. Damn girl.
We’ll be here when you have more time 🙂

  10. Lori

Oh. My. God….Hair, what hair! Nobody will be looking at the hair (which I love), they will be looking at you, a HOTTIE!! You look amazing Y!!! Have fun, don’t stress too much. These are the fun times. Someday you will look back and be glad it was so crazy, sad because it is gone, and glad it is not so crazy anymore. I never thought I’d have those feelings, but I do now that both boys are in college.
Oh, and did I say you look AMAZING?!!

  11. Laura aka LaLaGirl

Hey, I think the hair looks really cute. You have SUCH nice hair, Yvonne – I have never seen it look bad!
My oldest daughter, Kayley, is turning 15 on Sunday. Last Saturday, she flew from San Diego to Denver all by herself, and she did GREAT. I worried too, but it was all for naught.

  12. T

I love the hair – you look fabulous! they would be in your eyes if they were longer! i wish i could be so photogenic!

  13. Laura in Michigan

You look healthy (the important code word for SKINNY!!) And I love the cut. And your son will do great and feel all grown up. And if he gets stranded in Vegas, well, there’s those slot machines….. Just KIDDING! I promise, he will be fine!

  14. Mit

I was totally expecting to see 1/4 inch bangs. WHAT are you talking about “too short”?
I mean, if you wanted to do that 80’s style where you make a big curl out of them that stands up …. starched with hairspray …. it might be, ya know … a little short to wrap around the brush/curling iron.
Srsly – you DO look fabulous. Your hair AND your physique! Congrats!

  15. Andrea

Love the hair, the bod is hot and yes, summer has killed my blogging as well. Our schools don’t start until Aug 24.

  16. Aunt Becky

Your bangs always make me forget that I am traumatized by the bangs my mother gave me in the third grade that began at the back of my head and stopped at the bottom of my eyebrows.
    I think she hated me.

  17. mom, again

I understand about the layers. Last year when I moved back to the U.S., I went to a friend of my daughter’s because I was all desperate to look good for the other daughter’s wedding. At the time, she understood the layering thing. But gradually, she’s worked layers back into it. I’m going to have to give her a stern talking to: my hair is just curly enough that if I don’t straighten it, layers are a disaster. And I rarely have time to straighten it, or even blow it dry. The job she does on the color is so absolutely fantastic that I hate to leave her. Besides, they all want to put to many layers in.
Besides, everyone who hasn’t seen you in ages is gonna be so overwhelmed with your body they won’t be thinking about your hair. You totally rocked that bathing suit the other day.

  18. Shannon

    1) LOVE the cut. LOVE the bangs. Honestly, I think you’ve just made me want to cut bangs. Seriously.
    2) This is weird considering I’ve never met you and have recently started reading your blog, but I had a dream about you!! Don’t think I’m a total screwball, but I had a dream that my daughter, J, and I were on the same flight as you and your daughter! Where we were going, I don’t know… Nice meeting you! Again, I’m not a creepy weirdo.

  19. Marie Green

I actually really do like your haircut. I especially love it from the side/back photo. Pinky-swear, it’s cute.
We’re all still here, busy and bored with blogging. At least we’ve got the promise of SOME kind of Drama of the Internets, with upcoming BlogHer and all. 😉 (I’m not going to BlogHer. Maybe next year?)

  20. kdiddy

I genuinely like the cut. And you, my dear, are looking AMAZING, both physically and emotionally. You and the mister are so cute and in love it’s giving me a cavity. See you and your fine ass in NYC, hopefully!

  21. Melody

Okay I don’t know if you’re going to have time to even read all your comments right now with everything going on, but if you want to get your hair “fixed” (but I love it and don’t think you need to at all) I go to a girl in Chino Hills that is AWESOME and I love her to death. Howevah, I think your hair looks great! The bangs aren’t too short at all and I think the back looks so good! I cut my bangs myself a couple months ago (and have since then) so beat that. 😉 And it’s short and I want it to grow, so I’m totally coveting your hair! Anyway, have a great time! Sounds like fun, though stressful!

  22. statia

    OK, point the first:
    Your hair looks awesome.
Point the second: DO NOT. Under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, touch your hair MERE DAYS before blogher. That’s just asking for a big giant mega distaster. We both know it.

  23. sarah

Your hair looks great and you look svelte and happy. What is there not to like?
Have a good time at the wedding, just hit all the most important moments, i.e. ring exchange, kiss, walk down the aisle etc. and get the family shots and you will do great.

  24. SheilaInVA

Yvonne, you look so damn amazing!!!!!!!! You are my inspiration to keep on with my exercise program!! Love the hair, too!!=)

  25. Lisabc

Always love to read a new post from you Y.
Like everyone before me has said “You look amazing!” and your hair is beautiful! Change can be good 😉
    Hope the wedding was fabulous!

  26. kami

You look AMAZING, damn……..seriously impressed and I LOVE the hair!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  27. Pamela

The bangs look so cute. She looks younger. :). With bangs, it change your appearance. But I think you did well. Enjoy the wedding.

  28. Denise

I really like your hair. I think it looks young and cute. Seriously.
My 17 year old brother flew here to visit us just last night. He flew alone, with a stop over. Your son will be fine! I think our kids can handle a lot more than we give them credit for. I constantly need to remind myself of that. Still, I sympathize because I’d worry too in your shoes.
Anyway, I can’t wait til you’re back to blogging regularly, and I hope we get to see a video of you signing at your bro’s wedding!

  29. Stacy

Someone might have asked this, but I didn’t see it- where did you get your tee-shirt? I love it! Very cute! Also, I’ve read your blog for, well years. I admire you and everything you’ve accomplished. You look amazing, but I think you always have!
Thanks for opening you’re life to the rest of us.

  30. SarahP

I think you are one of the most beautful women in blog-land.
*not in a creepy stalkerish way, you just are!! 🙂

  31. Casie

shut yer mouth woman. It’s beautiful. I can’t get mine to curl for beans. I left the house looking like Farrah Fawcett circa 1970 and it was stick straight in less than 30 minutes.

  32. dbw

Wow – haven’t checked your blog for a while and I must say while I think your hair is cute – really casual-glamorous even – the rest of you looks totally amazing – you have lost so much weight!!!

  33. lani

For what it’s worth, girl, you look amazing. And I honestly think the haircut is cute. But I know how it is… doesn’t matter what others think if you don’t like it yourself. Maybe it’ll grow on you. 😉

  34. Jakki

I’m right there with you sweetie… I totally suck on blogging this summer…but I’m hoping to get back in the swing of things SOON
