If you don’t look good, we don’t look good…

I’ve always been somewhat obsessed with having pretty hair. When I was in high school, “Pretty” meant “Huge Bangs”, lots of hairsrpay and absolutely NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER.(Which, was so easy to achieve thanks to totally awesome inventions like THE SPRUSH.)
In my 20’s, I became a Hair Product Whore. A Snobby Hair Product Whore.
Hair products from Rite aid? GASP. Not on my precious, long, shiny, beautiful hair!
High end salons were the ONLY place I’d buy shampoos, conditioners and other products.
I will confess to using V05 hot oil treatments every once in a while (Haaaa! heating up “oil” in a coffee mug whilst soaping up in the shower. Oh, the memories). But, other than that, no product from Kmart would touch my hair.
Oh, how times have changed. Three kids + lots of bills + ONE INCOME= must purchase shampoo from the grocery store and ONLY if it’s on sale and I have a coupon. I’m currently using Dove shampoo and Treseme conditioner. I’ll tell people “there’s no difference! One just costs more!” BUT? I don’t really believe that. I miss my fabulous shampoos, and “deep conditioners”. I miss products that ACTUALLY MADE MY HAIR SMOOTH. (Frizz ease is ASS, people. A-S-S.)
I want to start splurging on my hair again because it’s really starting to feel coarse, and it’s not as shiny as it once was. The problem is I’m TOTALLY out of touch on all of the “good” products. I used to be all hip to that because I’d read the magazines and discuss “products” with my Very Expensive Hair Stylist. Matrix Biolage was The Shit back in the day. Is it still? Or is there something better out there now?
This is where you come in, Internet. I KNOW there are some Product Whore Snobs who read this. Why don’t you tell me what are the MUST HAVES for my hair. Products that will make my hair smell FIERCE, that will make my hair smooth as G-units Buttocks, that will make it as shiny as Tony’s forehead, that will make it thick and so on.
Feel free to throw in your favorite skin care products because this Dirty Whore Year Old Mother of Three has got some SERIOUS WRINKLE ACTION going on. OH and blotching. THE BLOTCHING.
I feel like splurging on some Good Product and I’m asking for YOUR HELP because I don’t want to waste the money I have to save on Crap.

I know nothing of hair and make-up, so I’m of no help
    *hangs head*
I’m so ashamed. It’s amazing people know I’m a girl
    :o)

  2. Busy Mom

I like Aveda hair products and as for skin care, I’m not much help since I still have acne issues at 41 (so not fair) so I am a Proactiv fan. Me and Jessica Simpson.

i’m big on Origins face stuff. expensive? oh yes, but mmmm… their products are absolutely yummy! i’m 36 and i think i look pretty good for my age. my favorite, don’t leave the house without it must-have, is A Perfect World Antioxidant moisturizer with White Tea.
psst. most Origins counters will give you samples if you ask for them so you can try them out for free before you drop a bundle, so go ask for some, stat! 🙂
for my hair, and damn. do i have a ton of it, i like Garnier Fructis shampoo, conditioner and Sleek and Shine serum. not too expensive and you can buy it in the grocery store but my hair is lovely and shiny and it smells delish. 🙂

  4. FlippyO

Not for you, but for other people reading, people with short hair – Pudding. Freeze Pudding for mah hair. Love the stuff.
Anyway, hate Aveda products. I go to an Aveda salon and it’s always so disappointing to get the same ol’ smells. But, love the stylist and it’s close by. For scents, I crave variety and get bored.
I’m a Sebastian and TIGI whore, generally.

  5. cindy

Hair: I used to LOV Biolage too. But I’ve found a shampoo and conditioner that I can buy at Sav-On and I LOVE it.
I use John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shine Relase Volumizing Shampoo and Light Reflectiong Conditioner in Chestnut to Espresso (for DARK hair).
You would probably need the moisturizing formula if you’ve got coarse hair.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE it and I can’t believe how cheap it is. About $5-$6 a bottle but that’s way cheaper than the other stuff. Anyway, my hair is SO SHINY now and i get compliments on my hair every week. I NEVER had that when I was using expensive stuff.
Also, I use Biosilk Silk Therapy Treatment. I put it in my hair right BEFORE I blow dry AND AFTER. My hair is so soft and smooth. It is a MUST. I would sell drugs for it.
    FACE/SKIN: I use
Step 1: Shiseido The Skincare purifying cleansing foam to wash
    step 2: Hydro-refining softener
Step 3: Advanced Super Revitalizer (this is the best moisturizer I’ve ever used on my face.)
I have some small samples I got for free from the counter last time…If you want me to send them to you, e-mail me.

  6. debutaunt

This makes me want to cry. I could have written the same post. Now. Now I’m going to save up and spend like $30 on some hair stuff.
Back in the day, I was Aveda and Origins girl. I swear I washed my face with dial foaming hand soap last week. So sad.

  7. Jennifer

I second the John Freida Brilliant Brunette line… That man’s Frizz-Ease only works on me in carefully monitored situations, but that line makes everything SO SHINY and PERFECT. And I’m a big fan of Got2B Instantly Satisfied conditioner! Also? Cheap! Yay!
And you really don’t want to ask ME about skin care… My dermatologist has me pumped full of drugs, and rubbing retinol with BLEACH on my face every night and we still don’t have it right.

  8. VenturaMom

Paul Mitchel Shampoo One is still my fav. Abba TruMint conditioner makes everything nice and smooth and it tingles. mmmm. tingles. Tigi Root Boost gives me some body at the roots, but not sure it would do the same for looooooong hair like yours. Good luck!

  9. kim

my friend ilka, who’s a hairdresser and colorist for wella told me aveda-products are the best. she brings tons back from jobs in the US because they’re freakin’ expensive here. or sebastian which supposedly is a little less expensive… she used this “straightener” on me a few times before – man, love it! but you can definetely go ask her, too 😉
PS: i’ve been jealous of your hair from day 1 – i may even have mentioned it before… 😉

  10. Fiona

i used to have the most lovely thick curly red hair….sighs….but with age it’s thinning really really badly and has gone kinda ‘limp’….i’ve even started taking phyto caps at the suggestion of my hairstylist….the conversation started with me saying…philip i think i’m going a little bald on top…to which he says oh no (he should be a politician) and then starts brushing my hair over the top from left to right asking if i’d ever considered a change of hairstyle….the man was giving me a FREAKIN COMBOVER!!!!!
*L* i used head and shoulders, and love the minty tingly one….and a little l’oreal conditioner…so i’m not one to comment on hair products i fear
but face stuff…OMG i’ve fallen in love with ‘hope in a jar’ by philosophy…it’s amazing….i have combi skin bordering on mostly dry and my chin and jaw area seems to get kinda rough in texture…yes i realise that with the thinning hair and advancing menopause this could well be the first signs of chin stubble….egads…..
but that stuff…once a week….halle-*******-lujah it’s lovely…i find myself stroking my jaw to enjoy how soft my skin is there after i use it *L*
    i paint a pretty picture of myself don’t i *L*

  11. Itchy

I third the Brilliant Brunette shampoo and conditioner. I also can’t buy expensive shampoo to use on a daily basis – so I purchased the Aveda Clarifying Shampoo and an Aveda conditioner that I use on Sundays to give my hair a boost. The conditioner I use makes my hair so FULL and FLUFFY though. I like it cause it feels so clean and light, but I really don’t think I could style it if I tried! 😀
Be careful trying new products on your face. I am 33 so I decided I should start taking better care of my face – so I got some samples from Mario Badescu since it’s supposed to be natural and good. My face HATED it and I’m still trying to calm it down. Aveeno’s new calming foaming face wash seems to be helping. So…just be careful.
Other than that, I visit http://www.Delush.com to get advice on some stuff.

  12. Debbie

I am backing up the person who said Biosilk Silk Therapy – can’t live without that! And Instacure and Kiwi Shampoo. I think you have to go to a beauty supply to get the last two. A friend of mine does my hair (and she is the Goddess of Hair!) so she buys the stuff and I get to buy it at cost. I always bow three times and repeat, I am not worthy….
Otherwise, I like Finesse products too.

  13. Ayesha97

I like Sebastian hair products, and Back to Basics (found out that BJ’s carries the bigger bottles for $15, you know the kind of bottles that hurt to lift it up in the shower, makes the $15 seem worth while)
For face, I’m still using Clinque, and if you buy it at the right time you can get a free gift from the store with $25 purchase- complete with a cute little bag!

  14. Echo

I use Suave, too. I like it, though. lol
I am totally IN LOVE with Mary Kay skin care! The Timewise and Velocity lines are GREAT! I use the 3-in-1 cleanser in the shower, then the Day Solution with Alpha Hydroxy, and Timewise Moisturizer. At night I use the Night Solution and more moisturizer. My skin is SO soft – I never thought it was possible!!
We’re living off of one income as well (an enlisted military paycheck, no less), so I don’t get the chance to buy expensive shampoos or skin care stuff, so Mary Kay is the most expensive stuff I get. 🙂

  15. heatherg

    Biosilk.
    It’s as simply as that.
I have long thick wavy hair and all i have to say is
    BIOSILK

  16. Anna

I am a huge HUGE product whore.

Biolage is still one of the best products out there for people with coarse or frizzy hair. I’m blessed with both… mine’s also thick which means that with the wrong hair products I end up with straight(ish) hair that is trying to be an afro. I don’t use it as much now since I discovered Bed Head.

I’ve tried the Brilliant brunette stuff and really it didn’t do anything great for me plus I ended up being allergic to the perfume they used in it. For a less expensive brand I’ve been using Inner Science moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

When I have money I buy the Bed Head Self-Absorbed line – most excellent moisturizing and it smells really nice and citrusy I’m a sucker for oranges. There is another line by Bed Head I think it’s called Self-Control that is green it smells like pineapple, I love it.

Alternatively and I’m not as fond of this I also use Joico Biojoba and lite daily conditioner, I’m finding though that it doesn’t combat the white girl afro as well as the Bed Head stuff.

I’ve also tried the Biosilk and again had problems with the fragrance. So if some perfumes bother you, you might want to be careful of this. I know the scent seemed fine to me before I used it, after wards the allergies went haywire.

  17. Alison

Mmmmm, I adore the Brilliant Brunette stuff too. And it smells AMAZING.
Speaking of smells, have you ever checked out the Bed Head stuff? That stuff smells really good too, and I’m a huge fan of Manipulator. Just go into a store and smell them, even if you don’t want to buy them.

  18. Nopoodle

Well, now that I too am forced to buy at the grocery store, for long hair that you want to be shiny and smooth, Pantene. They make one called “Smooth and Sleek” and it really does wonders for me, and I blow dry my longish hair to make it smooth.
I will say I’ve tried almost all the John Frieda products, Brilliant Brunette, Frizz-ease, etc, and they all suck. Brilliant Brunette not only adds color, but GREASE and who the hell wants that?? And Frizz-ease is impossible to get out. I hate his stuff, and yet, I keep buying it.
It’s been years since I purchased the Matrix and Biolage stuff, but I’m finding Pantene to do the trick. Remember in your youth when Pantene was HIGH END at the grocery store, and you couldn’t afford it? I sure do.

  19. Melanie Lynne Hauser

Any of those shine-enhancing serums do wonders, especially if you have to use a less-than-wonderful shampoo. They’re expensive at first – about $18 dollars for a tiny bottle – but they last forever because it takes very little product to make a difference. Redken Glass is good – I use another line (I forget just which – Kiwi, I think!)

  20. Lizard Queen

I am totally in love with Aveda’s Rosemary Mint line. Adds so much body to my hair it’s scary. The shower gel rocks too…especially when it’s hot outside because the mint…oh the mint, it cools the skin, and your scalp too..and it’ll promote hair growth by stimulating your scalp…
I also like some sebastian products, but I love the smell of bed head stuff….ohhh the honey oatmeal shampoo and conditioner, I swear it smells good enough to eat, oh and and it conditions well too! 🙂
Skin stuff…I have dry blotchy skin…always have…but have recently found Aveeno has an awesome facial line. Miss Sensitive skin can wash and condition and not look blotchy…

  21. vdoprincess

Nopoodle- I’m so glad I’m not the only one who hates John Freida stuff! I liked the smell of his Brilliant Brunette line, and it did at shine…for about 6 hours. Then it was super-icky. And on me, it seemed to make my hair feel coarse. Go figure.
Hair products: I must confess, I am currently using Victoria’s Secret Amber Romance. Oh. My. Gosh. That stuff smells so amazingly good, I seriously sit there and smell my hair. As does my fiancee. 🙂 It makes my hair decently shiny, no great revelations on that front. But the smell! Oh, the smell.
Best store ever: Sally’s Beauty Supply. They have “generic” versions of some high-end salon products that seem to work quite well. My sister has very coarse, dry, processed hair (former beauty queen, you know) and she swears by their Biolage knockoff. I can’t use it, because it conditions my fine hair too much. I use their Matrix knockoff in between Victorias Secret, and it works very well smoothing and shining without weighing down. They do have the “generic” version of biolage silk shine, and my sister uses that and loves it. (Side note: did you know you can use that stuff on your skin, as a highlighter? Adds glow without adding glitter. Cool, huh?)
I don’t have anything to add on the skin care side of things. I have ok skin, so I just use clean & clear. Boring and cheap, but it works better than a lot of more expensive things I’ve tried. I do have friends who swear by clinique, etc, and they suggest buying your products off ebay. Apparently if you know what you want you can really score some deals.

  22. Carla

I just spent over $60 on a shampoo and conditioner but i love it. It’s Kerastase Bain Satin Shampoo and Kerastase Lait Vital Conditioner. It smells amazing, like Chanel #5 but since it’s so expensive, I don’t use it regularly, only once in awhile. I actually posted about it here.
For skincare, I’ve been using some stuff from Lush (Coalface Soap), Kiehl’s (Rosewater toner and Sodium PCA moisturizer) and MAC’s Microfine Refinisher. That stuff is amazing, I love it. It’s like microdermabrasion.

  23. Heatheranne

I have to buy the cheap stuff, or the high end grocery store crap. And, I totally spend way too much on my hair. It’s almost down to my ass. OK. I alternate shampoo/conditioner brands. Don’t know if it’s true but it seems like if I use the same brand for too long, it stops working. I go switch between Pantene and Dove. Sometimes I’ll go really cheap and use V05 because it smells like heaven (the strawberries and cream one!) After the shower is what kills my budget. I use Pantene leave in conditioner, V05 Detangle and Shine, and Got 2 Be Shine. I know, it’s a lot. And if I feel like splurging, I’ll use the V05 Hot Shower Works (the one you don’t have to heat up. Love it! It makes my hair sooooo smooth.)
I’m cheap with the skin care too. I use walmart face cleaning cloths and Jergins Firming lotion on my face. Let us know what you tried and what worked!

  24. girlplease

I see someone mentioned Pantene. Watch out for the Patnene. It has a reputation of breaking the hair. It’s too heavy for the hair. One day you’ll have nice hair, the next, *snap*.
Every hair salon I went to, from Super Cuts to ones that charge $60 a cut, say Pantene is shit.

  25. Ms. Q

i am joining the legions who said Aveda. I try to stray from Aveda but I always come back. You can get small travel sizes of the products for pretty cheap if you want to try them out. In fact, I tried some other Bumble & Bumble products for a month and my hair looked like poo. I got some Confixor (it’s a conditioning fixative you put on damp hair before you style) and my hair looks gorgeous again. It’s smooth and shiny and no frizzies or dryness. And it smells sooo good.
Origins is good, too. They are owned by Aveda (which is owned by Estee Lauder now, I believe). I could be wrong. Whatever, I’ve tried it all and Aveda works best for hair, skin, and makeup. Their lipstick is the only one I like.
Also, I hate to butt in on this, but if your hair is getting course, and you aren’t feeling great, you need to get your thyroid checked. You may have an imbalance (like me!) that is easily treatable.

  26. Jenny

Bumble and Bumble, baby. I use them for all my hair needs – the styling creme rocks, and their shampoo and conditioners are so yummy smelling. I also use their surf spray when I want to add texture and wave. Worth every mofo penny, IMO.
Hope in a Jar is wonderful, and although the jar is small, it lasts a long time. I use tea-tree oil on breakouts, which is stinky but doesn’t dry my skin out. Toothpaste also works on zits.
The thing with moisturizers is to find one that feels good on your skin, and use it consistantly. You don’t have to pay the big bucks for it.

  27. skits

Big from Lush will take YEARS off of your hair. Seriously.
But, I’ll totally second any Aveda product–they’re one of my favorite brands.

  28. Kristy

I have thick and curlyish hair. I’m extremely cheap, but started using Biolage and love it. I was using Dove, but it made my hair feel gross for some reason. As far as for the face, I’m limited to Clean n Clear. It doesn’t get my Dermatitis all out of control. Plus, it’s inexpensive.

  29. Tammy

I am a Pantene girl. Yes I know my hairsystlist down at Great Clips tells me it’s crap but my hair is happy. The new line just for brunettes is pretty good.
Drink lots of water and take E and B6 vit. and you’l see a difference too and it will help with the PMS you have. My mom says to drink milk too.
Face stuff, I just cant help you either. I have been trying to find something that makes my face happy. Just cant.

  30. Nopoodle

You know, I had no idea about the Pantene thing. I may switch. Harmon’s Beauty Supply is also a great place, to get designer stuff at discount prices. They carry everything – Paul Mitchell, Nexxus, Biolage, Matrix. Maybe it’s time to splurge on a little ME.

  31. Erin

I’m a product whore snob, and I’d suggest Lush’s Big Shampoo (www.lush.com) – its made with sea salt and I use it probably 2, 3x a week or so and it makes my curly/wavy, coarse, frizzy hair feel incredible. For conditioner, I use biolage, and for moisturizer, I use one from the Aveda be sensitive line.
For skin cleanser I just use plain old dial soap and noxema on my face.

  32. Crystal

My hubs’ ex wife is a stylist. He is (or at least was before I took over the budget!!) a hair product SNOB!! He only used Biolage shampoo and conditioner, Biolage gel, Paul Mitchell dry wax, wet wax, and Slick gel. As for smoothing, Matrix makes a smoothing spray in an orange bottle, it works really well. I use the orange bottle Freeze Spray by Matrix from time to time. Have fun!!

  33. Jen

I used to use Biolage but have found a new product. I am such a pruduct snob that I order my shampoo and conditioner from a catalog. Seriously. I use Phytum Hair Care Nutrition from Yves Rocher. My hair is so soft AND it smells good! I love it! (I always stock up when they have it on sale for $3.00 a bottle.) They have some wonderful facial products as well. I use the Bio Specific Pore Regulation because I was cursed with huge pores. It works great for me.

  34. Sky

OK delurking to add my 2cents.
Lush’s BIG shampoo is the absolute best for hair; and Estee Lauder Day Wear for facial moisturizer. I use Garner Fructis conditioner, and the same shampoo on non Lush days. And like Ayesha97 said, wait until FREE gift time to buy the moisturizer, Estee Lauder has some awesome gifts. If you’re looking for a cleanser EL has a really nice yummy smelling foaming cleanser too. Have fun – and don’t forget to ask for the free samples then you can try lots of different stuff.

  35. Y

I LOVE it when you people “delurk” Especially to tell me about awesome hair products. ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY when those products are “on sale”.

  36. Annika

I only put products from Origins anywhere near my face. My hair, on the other hand, gets Garnier Fructis ($2.99), and it likes it. (I do have a nice leave-in conditioner from my hair salon, but I have no idea what brand it is.)

  37. Michelle

Another vote for Aveda. I use their formula for dark hair and my hair has never looked better- and I have naturally course and curly/wavy hair and this stuff makes my hair so soft and manageable.

  38. Tammy/averagemom

Okay, I have nothing to add. I’m just here to find out stuff for my own face and hair. The hair, I use a clarifying shampoo from Clairol. Face, I use Clean & Clear, and all the make-up I can possibly afford. Nothing too cheap, nothing really pricey. Cover Girl, mainly.

  39. jenny lee

OMG LADIES NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! aveda sucks! ok sure it’s cute and natural and smells nice…but it is horrid!! bumble and bumble is pretty good if you like odd smelling stuff. ok…there are 3 different kinds of things …ok 4…ok 5..that i’m going to mention. and pay attention. first off…i use schwartzcoff and bricotto…..totally spelled them wrong and i don’t feel like running to my bathroom. two different things. the schwartzcoff one is shampoo/conditoner. the bricotta is my hair color. (don’t let those aveda pushers tell you that theirs is the best…cuz it’s not..they HAVE to say that…i know). then i use pureology hair gunk and hair spray…3 whisps of that crap and you are set. doesn’t feel like you are…but it holds ALL DAY! and finally, if you are on a budget and aren’t getting your products from your best friend (who is a high end salon stylist magician) garnier fructis works just as good as the salon formulas. in fact, it’s recommended! back off of the suave, and dove costs the same as fructis! if you have more questions….email me!!!!

  40. Annika

I just remembered how much I love Paul Mitchell Awapuhi shampoo. And so of course, I am looking for my shoes because I HAVE TO GO TO THE STORE. I think I used to use it with The COnditioner. But only when they were both on sale, because MAN are they pricey normally.

  41. TheBon

I have never used salon-only products until I had to put down over $100 to fix my hair color. I’m not about to pimp those products, because I find they’re okay. They’ve kept the color in but you’re not worried about that. I do use the brilliant brunette mousse and satin shine. I have not had any issues with it adding grease to my hair at all. In fact, I find that my hair is less greasy and I can actually go without washing it for longer, where I used to have to wash it every day, no exceptions.

  42. Chasity

I love Rusk shampoo and conditioner. I use the biosilk shine (love, love, love it) and for deep conditioning. I use Redken Buttercream. I am a hair junky and those are my favorite products!!

  43. Jerilyn

    One word……………….
    ALTERNA
………………….. I tried everything else – and I mean everything. This blew my socks off, big time. I have naturally (extremely) curly hair that will tend to dry out and get coarse very easily. It sometimes looked and felt like straw and was brittle. I had split ends like nobody’s business. And, try to blow dry my hair straight? Fuhgettaboudit.
My (then) stylist suggested I try it out. I fell in love. The hemp line is amazing.
My adoration has endured…longer than I lived in that city, longer than I saw that stylist…..hell, even longer than my marriage. Now, THAT’s true love.
    I preach it again…ALTERNA

  44. Jessica

i have used pantene smooth and sleek since they started making it, and my hair loves it. before that, i used the pantene… i don’t remember the number, but i think it was the same as smooth and sleek before they actually gave it a name. i color my hair now and i used the pantene for colored hair. my hair never breaks and never seems heavy after using the pantene. it’s much softer than when i use something else. also, since i have very thick hair, i can sometimes (especially when it’s humid) get the white girl afro. i saw that someone mentioned Bed Head… it’s the Control Freak serum that works GREAT!!!! from Bed Head. I haven’t found it in the grocery store here, but I get it at Borics, where my son gets his hair cut.
as for skin care… i haven’t found anything that helps my face feel good. i break out all the time and have very greasy skin. (Stupid Italian skin!!) still searching on that. I have tried just about everything that everyone has mentioned here and nothing seems to work for me… and i can’t use anything with the weird perfumes on my skin.

  45. cooper

Biolage products for me, logistics clarifying to get out products every couple of weeks and use the biolage jar conditioner on a hair once a week for a thirty minute conditioning; leave on hair with a towel or plastic bag wrapped around your head.
I do love Aveda products but they don’t smell all that great.
My grandmother used not hing b ut Noxema and ponds cold cream on her face and her skin was awesome.

  46. Jenna

Okay, being as how my brother is currently in hairdressing school, I have become a hair product SNOB. The shampoos that keep my hair really soft are Redken AllSoft and Joico Silk Result. Im currently using another Joico shampoo/conditioner combo and dont like it as much as the Silk Result. Anyway, because I can buy them direct, instead of going through a salon I can usually get 300mL bottles of shampoo and conditioner for slightly under $20 for both. If I purchased at a salon I would pay near double that (we’re talking Canadian dollars, too). Needless to say the brother and I tend to go shampoo shopping for all of our friends.
Also, for a deep conditioning treatment I recommend Joico K-Pak conditioner. See how much your salons charge for that. It might be pricey, but totally worth it.
As for skin care I have no idea.

  47. Luka

I use the Oil Of Olay Total Effects 7 Signs Serum of my face and their regular complete moisturizer. its been REALLY god for my skin. Plus – it makes makeup go one better. Its nice and cheap too 🙂 For my hair I use Pantene – and it works great for me 🙂

  48. Dena

Former snob…now a SAHM on a budget 🙂 I swear by the Suave Professional line…it’s like generic biolage, or generic Paul Mitchell, etc. I use the biolage type and I SWEAR it is the same thing for under $3.
Skin care….Dad is a dermatologist. He has me using Dove foaming face wash. LOVE IT! Under $7. I use mary kay makeup (buy off ebay). Also, you can check out drugstore.com and get all the suave products I mentioned and the dove face wash with free shipping if you spend $25 🙂

  49. Broad

I second the Pureology. It’s Hydrating conditioner puts Aveda’s Rosemint to SHAME. Makes your all tingly and supersoft.

  50. AC

    [/lurk mode]
One fancy schmancy hair product I can’t live without? Tigi Bedhead After Party. I go through the stuff like a crackhead. LOVE IT. Put it on after you blowdry. Smoothes fly-aways & split-ends, leaves hair super shiny, and it makes your head smell oh-so incredibly yummy and sweet. Hubby loves to smell my noggin when I use the stuff 😀

  51. Jett

Vitamin World’s Biotin Shampoo is SUPER-inexpensive and really great for your hair.
Aveda’s Cherry Almond Bark conditioner has been a staple in our house since the early nineties. Other Aveda products march in, around, and out of the shower, but the CAB is always, always there because it works miracles on tired hair and smells so very yummy.

  52. Amy S

Hair- I have to use T-gel and I use The detangler (Paul Mitchell) for conditioner. I use Biolage gel mixed with water in a loreal bottle. Paul Mitchell Freeze and shine Hair spray.
    Skin- Anything Neutrogena

  53. Arianne

I get my hair stuff at the salon too, I use Redken and its fantastic! I also love all the Tigi (bedhead, catwalk, etc) styling products. I’ve used Bumble & Bumble before too, also a great line.
I’ve used Arbonne products for years, all natural Swiss botanical skin care. I love it so much I started selling it last year. They have a fantastic anti-aging line called RE-9 that is for all skin types. Makes my in her 50’s mom look at least 10+ years younger and cleared my acne up that I’ve had my whole life. LOVE!

    LOVE Pureology products for hair.
Face. Alpha Hydrox foaming face wash (it’s soap free)
    ” ” daily moisturizing lotions w/SPF 15
At my local grocery store I can buy a lot of salon hair products that were previously only available at salons.
I’m still a hair product snob. I’ll buy generic every thing else but not hair products. NEVER!

Biosilk, agreed. If you buy the big bottle, it’s cheaper than Frizz-ease. I use Dove Intense Moisture shampoo and conditioner that I buy in 40 oz bottle at Costco. Then I use Biosilk SIlk Therapy, and Tresemme mousse, and Aveda Brilliant Hairspray. If you need a new dryer, try the Vidal Sassoon Ionic Sensor Touch… it turns on when you pick it up, off when you set it down.
Skin care: I use Cetaphil, Cetaphil, Cetaphil. Olay Regenerist, Neutrogena eye makeup remover. You do not have to use fancy schmancy products. Whatever works for you, sweetie. Good luck!
